The 61st Ohio Volunteer Infantry is a Civil War Reenactment organization based in the Youngstown, Ohio region, formed for the purpose of promoting educational aspects of the American Civil War; to teach its historical significance through activities, programs, and living history demonstrations; to authentically portray both Union soldiers from the 61st OVI and Northern civilians - their life, clothing, equipment, actions, and battles; and to encourage family participation and the friendship of all who hold the same interest.
The unit was created to portray members of Company “D” of the 61st Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a volunteer Army unit. Members come from all over Northeastern Ohio and the surrounding area. The 61st participates in many regional and national events. These include everything from small living histories to large-scale battle reenactments. The unit is also a member of Birney’s Division one of the largest national reenactor organization in the United States. Through Birney’s we are insured.
